You will need to identify your existing hardware to properly select the appropriate Salto upgrades.
The four most common door hardware preps are:
- cylindrical
- mortise
- exit device
- aluminum storefront.
Cylindrical
The most common lock style is cylindrical. It is identified by a single hole bored through a door with a lock cylinder in the center with a smaller ~2″ tall latch on the edge of the door. See the example picture below.

These come in two backset sizes. 2-3/8, which is generally for residential applications , and 2-3/4 for commercial. The backset is measured from the edge of the door to the center of the hole and/or keyway if a lock is installed.

Mortise
A mortise lock is a heavy-duty commercial-grade lockset. It is identified by the key cylinder being separate from the handle set. The handle set is approximately XX” above the lockset with the large latch plate on the edge of the door being approximately 8″ tall. See the example picture below.

Exit Device
An exit device is a commercial-grade device for areas that hold more than 50 people to meet fire safety and egress requirements. It is easily identifiable as a long horizontal bar, approximately 3-4′ on the inside of the door. See the example picture below.

Aluminum Storefront Door
The last common door is an aluminum storefront. These are easily identifiable by having an aluminum frame with the majority of the door made from glass. These are common in retail storefront areas for display. See the example picture below.

When it comes to selecting the right Salto hardware, it depends on what hardware you already have and how you want it to function. There are three options:
- Neo deadbolt,
- XS4 One deadlatch
- Neo Rim Cylinder for an Exit Device.
Deadbolt
If your existing door has a deadbolt and you want it to continue to function where it is opened in the morning and stays open until it is manually locked, Then you will want two Neo Mortise Cylinders – one for the outside and one for the inside.
Deadlatch
If your door currently has a spring latch coming out of the edge of the door and it automatically locks every time the door shuts, then you will want the XS4 One Deadlatch.
Exit Device
If you have an existing exit device on the aluminum storefront door, then you will want a Neo Rim Cylinder. Depending on your needs, you may need a designer XS Wall Reader and electric strike, but this will require a local professional installation.
